Hey everyone, welcome back!
I’ve been working on this one for a while and I think it’s a goodie! This post is gonna be all about my at home beauty treatments. I think this is the perfect post for quarantine life, because it’s all DIY! So first we’ll talk facial treatments, then waxing, then nails, then some random extra tips at the end! DISCLAIMER: I am not a an aesthetician or dermatologist or any sort of professional, nor am I claiming to know as much as they would. But, I do consider myself knowledgable and educated in terms of skincare and beauty and I do my research. So just keep in mind that this is what works for me and these are just my recommendations. So for my at home facial treatments, I have my daily skincare of course which helps me to maintain the health of my skin but I also have my weekly (sometimes bi-weekly) in depth treatments. Once a week I like to do this mini at-home facial: First I steam my face for about 10 minutes and oil cleanse at the same time.. oil attracts oil, so this is great as a first cleanse while steaming, to really pull oil out of the pores. Then I’ll use a really gentle physical exfoliant as my second cleanse. Then I will use my dermaplaning tool to get my skin really smooth and soft (dermaplaning is essentially face-shaving with a single blade) this removes peach fuzz and a LOT of dead skin cells. The key to this is pulling the skin taught and working in small strokes. Then I will go in with a pore strip followed by a mask (the mask of choice depends on what my skin needs at that time, but usually it is a cellular renewal/resurfacing mask) Then I finish off with a gua sha facial massage and facial rolling and my usual skincare routine which consists of toner, serum, moisturizer, and a facial oil Now onto waxing… so waxing yourself at home can seem a little scary but I’ve been finding it super simple and its also much more sustainable for our bodies and the earth! I use sugar wax, but I don’t exactly sugar my hair to remove it. I mix 1 cup of white sugar, with 4 tablespoons of water and 4 tablespoons of lemon juice, in a pot on the stove. I keep this on medium heat while stirring frequently, until the mixture turns to an amber colour (for my this takes about 15 minutes) once the colour changes, be sure to take the pot off the heat right away. I let the mixture cool until it thickens quite a bit. It’s now ready to use right away or store in a (greased) jar. For waxing, I prep with baby powder on the area and then begin applying the wax in the opposite direction of the hair growth. Then I use strips of cotton fabric to remove the wax like a was strip. The key is to soak the cotton strips in warm water to remove the wax and hair, and BAM! they’re reusable! For aftercare I just apply coconut oil to the area, and that’s all! Now for nailssss!!!! I’ve come to love doing my own nails at home. I use gel polish and a UV light, and occasionally polygel for nail extensions. The most important part, and the key to a longer-lasting set of nails, is preparation. So first if I have time I soak my fingers for a couple minutes to soften up the cuticles. Then I push my cuticles back and trim them very carefully. After cuticles, I file and shape the tips of my nails and then gently buff the nail beds. Then I start with a base gel and then continue with my colour and finish with a top coat. One of the best tips I can give you is to take your time and be sure to not get any polish on the edges or around the cuticle. If you do, be sure to remove it before curing in the light, to prevent the gel from lifting off too soon. This gel manicure last’s about 2 weeks, but I usually remove my polish and switch my colours almost weekly just for fun! So those are my three main at-home beauty treatments I’ve been doing on my own for a while. I also recently did my own eyelash lift, as well as highlights and extensions in my hair! These things are a little harder to do and I’ve just started myself…but if you guys are interested in another DIY beauty treatments post, then let me know! I hope this post was helpful and fun for some of you! I also have some exciting collaborations coming up on this blog so stay tuned for that! Thanks for reading! -Maddi
